Eagles Rebound Against Ecclesia
Oakland City, IN---The Asbury College basketball team bounced back after a tough loss in the NCCAA First Round yesterday defeating Ecclesia College (AR) 96-91 on Friday afternoon. Asbury took a 10 point lead into halftime today after leading by five yesterday, but this time the Eagles would hold on despite being outscored by five in the second half.
The Eagles were led again by sophomore Jordan Hammonds who had his second 20 point game of the tournament and also added six rebounds and four assists. Hammonds was perfect from the floor, hitting all six of his shots and all six from beyond the three-point line. Senior Michael Spann added 18 points and six rebounds and eight assists which were a team high.
Junior TJ Chinn sparked the team off the bench knocking down three three-pointers and scoring 16 points. Brian Johnson and Phillip Morrison added 11 each and Jordan Noble added 10 of his own off the bench.
Asbury torched the nets in the first half shooting 64% from the floor and knocking down eight three-pointers. The Eagles would only cool off in the second half shooting only 47% but would take 20 trips to the line knocking down 13 to hold off Ecclesia.
The Eagles will take on the winner of Central Baptist and Oakland City tomorrow at 5:00 pm in the 5th place game.
