Eagles Win Thriller
Wilmore, KY---The Eagles got their first conference win Tuesday night over Alice Lloyd 89-88 in the Luce Center. The Eagles were down two when Michael Spann knocked down two free throws with 36.2 seconds left. Alice Lloyd would fail to get a shot off in their possession as Will Dillard was blocked out of bounds by Jordan Hammonds with two on the shot clock . Nick Brumback wasn't able to get a shot off and Asbury would run off the final 1.3 seconds.
Asbury (13-6, 1-1) was led by sophomore Jordan Hammonds' 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Sophomore Phillip Morrison and senior Michael Spann would both add 16, and junior Brian Johnson joined them in double figures with 11. Spann would lead the way with five of the team's 17 assists. Johnson led the defensive effort with five steals. The Eagles would have 11 for the game.
This game was back and forth throughout with Asbury holding a 51-50 lead at halftime, and each team scoring 38 in the second half. Asbury had the largest lead of the game at 27-20. Overall there were 19 lead changes and seven ties.
The Eagles were out-rebounded by 11, 40-29 but grabbed 10 offensive boards and scored 14 second chance points. Asbury continued their long range shooting, connecting on 13 of 33 from beyond the three-point line, a 39% clip.
Asbury will play host to Indiana East on Friday at 7 pm, as they welcome back former coach Jim Aller's new team.
