Basketball and Bibles
WILMORE, KY—On Jan. 20, the men’s and women’s basketball teams are doubling up on the court and in ministry. During the double header against Alice Lloyd College, the teams are collecting used Bibles from fans in order to “Bring the Word” to downtown Lexington by distributing the donated Bibles in Triangle Park and surrounding areas.
“I have been wanting to share the Gospel again (like we did at the prison) and as I prayed about it, the idea of once again combining basketball and Jesus Christ showed itself this way,” Men’s basketball head coach Will Shouse said. “The basketball players are excited about any chance they get to witness. It is a very mature group in that aspect. They just ask when and where.”
The teams hope to collect 500 Bibles. The teams will be prepared to answer questions when they go out, but their goal is to provide the ultimate tool, God’s Word, to help those they meet further their walk with the Lord. “We want to present them with a gift and wish them a blessed day,” Shouse said.
To help the teams, “Bring the Word,” fans can bring Bibles to the men’s and women’s double header on Jan. 20. The women play at 6 p.m. and the men’s game begins immediately afterward.
