Men Pick Up Win at Berea Classic
Berea, KY---The Asbury College men's basketball team picked up a big win on Friday night as part of the Berea Classic, defeating Trinity International 88-83.
Asbury (8-4) was led by Senior Michael Spann's 25 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Spann knocked down eight of eleven from the free-throw line, and eight of 17 from the floor. Sophomore Phillip Morrison added 16 points, and juniors Brian Johnson and T.J. Chinn added 13 each. Johnson also led the team with nine rebounds.
Both teams would shoot over 50% in the first half, Asbury 50% and TIU 51%, as the teams would head to the locker room deadlocked at 49. The second half was a different story as the Trojans only shot 35% and the Eagles 39%. The difference was at the free-throw line where Asbury would hit 12 of 22, compared to only 5 of 8 for TIU.
The Eagles have the weekend off before returning home for two. Asbury will host Boyce Bible College Tuesday December 9, at 7pm. They will also play Spalding University Thursday December 11, at 8pm as part of a double-header with the women hosting St. Catharine's. Asbury will close out the semester as they travel to Owensboro, Kentucky to take on NCAA DII Kentucky Wesleyan in an exhibition contest Saturday December 13, at 7pm.
