Men's Basketball season ends in 90-85 loss to Oakland City
Oakland City, IN - 35 points by senior forward Eric Sanders and a 29-of-36 performance from the free throw line helped Oakland City turn a 30-point loss two weeks ago to the Eagles into a 90-85 win. Ben Spann led Asbury in scoring with 19 points, including 7-of-11 shooting from the field. He was joined in double figures by Michael Spann and Derek Bland with 16 and 13 points respectively.
Both teams shot well in the first half with Asbury topping out at 53.2 percent on 14-of-26 shooting. The hot first half still translated into a 44-39 deficit as Oakland City shot 46.9 percent, hitting 15 field goals and a perfect 10-of-10 performance from the line.
Asbury again would fall behind by as many as 17 in the second half before pressing and drawing the game close but simply not able to make up the deficit in the time remaining.
The loss closes the book on the 2007-08 season, leaving Asbury with an 18-16 overall record. Milestones achieved included adding three, 1,000-point scorers to the all-time list with Derek Bland, Brett Johnson, and Michael Spann each adding their names to the list, increasing the club to 13 all-time players who have achieved the feat.
