Men's Basketball captures NCCAA Mid East Region title
Wilmore, KY - Asbury used a hot-shooting second half, including four three-pointers by Derek Bland to turn a 32-26 halftime lead into an 80-50 final to capture the 2008 NCCAA Mid East Region Championship. The Eagles' run ended with Bland's third straight three pointer that blew open a 42-32 game into a 68-43 lead for Asbury with just over four minutes remaining. Bland ended up leading all scorers with 16 points and was joined in double figures by Michael Spann with 14, Brett Johnson with 13, and Brandon Fentress with 11.
The Eagles now advance to the 2008 NCCAA National Tournament to be played in Oakland City, Indiana from March 18-20. Pairings and seedings will soon be released.
