Honolulu, HI - The men's basketball team is set for it's second game in Hawaii on Jan. 5 against Hawaii-Hilo. The Eagles lost 87-65 at Chaminade University in Honolulu on New Year's Eve.
A hot-shooting first-half by Chaminade and an injury to forward Brett Johnson only six minutes into the game doomed the Eagles in an 87-65 setback. The host Silverswords shot 69 percent from both the field and three-point range in the first half, building a 53-32 lead. Earlier in the half, the game was close at 14-11 before Johnson would come down awkwardly on another player's foot, sending him to the bench for the Eagles. Chaminade would immediately respond with a 16-3 run, making the score 30-14 from which they would never look back.
Michael Spann and Matt Pittman led Asbury in scoring with 11 points each with Spann connecting on 3-of-4 attempts from behind the arc. The team will next be in action against Hawaii-Hilo on Saturday, January 5th at 7:15 p.m., Hawaiian Standard Time. With the five hour time difference the game will begin at 12:15 a.m. on the Jan. 6 in the Eastern time zone.
