Men's Basketball loses rematch with Spalding, 84-77

Louisville, KY - Hot shooting by an opponent in the second half doomed Asbury again in an 84-77 loss at Spalding University on Thursday night. The Eagles held a 38-34 advantage heading into the half thanks in part to shooting 5-of-6 from behind the arc and limiting Spalding to just over 40 percent shooting. The second half would see a reversal of fortunes with the Golden Eagles going 55.2 percent (16-29) from the field, erasing the Asbury lead.

Derek Bland and Michael Spann each led Asbury with 19 points. For Bland, he became the school's 11th member of the 1,000 point club. Spann could join Bland in the next few games as the junior guard sits at 955 points in his career. Spalding was led by Nana Duah with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

The loss moves Asbury to 11-8 on the season as they return to conference play on Saturday against St. Louis Pharmacy. The game is set to tip off around 3:00 p.m. as the second game of a  women's / men's doubleheader against the Eutectics. As always, the game can be heard on WACW , Asbury's broadcast home for athletics on the internet.
