Men's Basketball scores key wins at Berea Classic

The Eagles got timely outside shooting from Michael Spann who scored 20 points and 3-of-5 from three-point range and Derek Craft who added a 4-of-6 night from behind the arc to combine with inside play from Brett Johnson with 21 points to take control against Milligan, never relinquishing the lead after a 37-31 halftime lead.

Good for Asbury was their shooting night from the field, going 28-of-52 for a 53.8% mark balancing out only three individual offensive rebounds. The Eagles produced 17 assists on 28 made baskets, led by three players (Brian Johnson, Brett Johnson, and Dusty Riedesel) in the post distributing four assists each.

Asbury began the year missing on its first 14 attempts from three-point range but has since rallied to make 18 of its last 41 attempts (43.9%).

Asbury 85, Montreat 74

The Eagles wrapped up a sweep of the weekend by winning a rematch with Montreat (N.C.), 85-74. Asbury started hot with a 36-13 lead over the first 13 minutes of play, but Montreat would rally with an 18-2 run to close the halftime score to 38-31.

Asbury would again hold their poise in the second half, holding off a Montreat rally that closed the game to 63-60 before Derek Craft would make a three-pointer from the wing and send Asbury on its way.

Brett Johnson led the Eagles with 23 points and 15 rebounds including a perfect 11-of-11 from the line. Johnson also added four assists for the second straight game. Brian Johnson would lead with six assists earning his third start of the season.

The pair of wins puts Asbury at 4-2 on the season heading into the Thanksgiving Break. The team will take the floor at home again on Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st in the Asbury-Berea Classic to be held at the Luce Center. Asbury will face Crown College on Friday at 8:00 p.m. with a game against Cincinnati Christian the next day at 3:00 p.m.
