Win over IUS puts men atop KIAC standings

Junior Brandon Fentress continued his torrid play off the bench on Tuesday night, registering 12 points and 17 rebounds in a 77-70 win over Indiana-Southeast. The Eagles win coupled with a Spalding loss to Berea (69-61) on Tuesday puts Asbury on top of the KIAC at 4-1. Michael Spann and Brett Johnson also scored in double figures with 17 and 14 points respectively.

Asbury led 36-25 at halftime and extended their lead to 43-28 before IUS would respond with a 22-7 run to tie the game at 50. The Eagles would respond with a Ben Spann field goal and a Jon Ensign three-pointer, pushing Asbury back out in front, 55-50. The Eagle surge was punctuated by a Derek Bland three-point-play, increasing Asbury's lead to 62-54. The Eagles would not be threatened again.

The win puts Asbury 4-1 in conference and 16-7 overall. The next game for the Eagles is Thursday, February 1st against IU-East. The game is the second of the season against the Pioneers, with Asbury taking the first, 102-68 in a game played at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Tip-off for the rematch is set for 7:00 p.m.
