Martin Methodist Sweeps Asbury

PULASKI, Tenn. – Asbury baseball dropped a pair of games to Martin Methodist on Friday evening, 10-3 and 2-1. The teams will meet again on Saturday to complete the four-game series. The losses drop Asbury to 4-19 while Martin Methodist improves to 13-7.
Martin Methodist scored all 10 runs in the first three innings of game one, including a five-spot in the second inning. Asbury managed just three hits. Jared Hahn and Casey Messner each had an RBI, both coming in the seventh inning. Hahn had one of the three hits as did Jared Payton and Logan Crum. Anthony Palmer (2-3) took the loss.
In the second game the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the third as Brandon McGuire knocked in Brandon Smith with a single to center field. Two of Asbury’s four hits came in the third inning as Smith led it off with an infield single.
The Eagles led until the fifth when Martin Methodist scored both of their runs. A lead-off walk followed by a pair of singles scored the first run and a balk brought in the winning run. Zach Settle (0-2) allowed only four hits and two runs in 4.1 innings but took the loss.
