Eagles Home Opener Spoiled by Campbellsville
Game 1 | Game 2 | Season Stats
WILMORE, Ky. – Campbellsville swept two games from Asbury in the Eagles’ home opener on Thursday after Tuesday’s scheduled doubleheader was rained out. The Eagles were outscored 9-0 in game one and dropped game two 8-4. Game two was called after five innings due to darkness.
The Eagles (1-14) had their chances to score in game one, putting a runner at third in five of the seven innings but failed to cross the plate. Asbury left eight on base including runners at the corners in the first and again in the sixth. Campbellsville (5-1) scored a single run in the second and two more in the fifth. Only one of those three runs was earned and all were charged to starter Isaiah Bell.
Bell pitched five innings and allowed five hits and struck out four. Both runs scored in the fifth were unearned after two errors. Campbellsville added another run in the sixth and then five in the seventh as the bullpen struggled. Simeon Bell and Dallas Murphy each had two hits in the game, Murphy picked up his team-high fourth double of the season.
In the second game it was the bullpen that pitched well. Brandon Ray threw three shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three. Ray replaced Logan Howard who lasted just two innings. Howard was undone by four errors in the second inning that led to seven unearned runs. Campbellsville scored all eight runs in the second.
The Eagles scored three in the third and their final run in the fifth. Matt Mitchell scored twice, picked up an RBI and a base hit. No Eagles had more than one hit but five different Eagles had a hit. Four different players were hit by a pitch.
Asbury is set to host Lourdes University on Friday and Saturday in a four-game set. Friday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm with Saturday’s action set for 12 pm.
