Patriots Sweep Eagles
ST. CATHARINE, Ky. – Asbury dropped two more as they fell to 0-4 on the young season, losing a double-header 12-2 and 6-1 to St. Catharine on Tuesday afternoon.
Asbury’s offense again struggle, churning out just three hits in game one before collecting seven in game two. Tyler Weaver (Richmond, Ky.) had two hits in the first game. Mark Leake made his first start for the Eagles and picked up the loss in just 1.1 innings of hitless ball. The sophomore walked one and hit five. The Patriots (2-2) scored in every inning except the first.
In game two Asbury out-hit the Patriots seven to five, but Eagles’ pitchers handed out eight walks and hit one batter. Casey Messner had two of the seven hits for the Eagles. Connor Belcher picked up the loss in his first career start.
The Eagles have only score four runs in the first four games of the season and have allowed 28. Asbury will host Bluefield (Va.) for a three game series starting on Friday at 2 p.m. Saturday’s double-header will start at 1 p.m.
