Eagles Drop Two More in Tennessee

DAYTON, Tenn. – Asbury closed out the Tennessee Valley Invitational with a 15-2 loss to Indiana Wesleyan and a 10-8 loss to St. Xavier (Ill.) on Saturday.  The Eagles have dropped all eight games to start the season.

Asbury’s offense finally came alive a little bit in the finale against St. Xavier, registering a season-high 8 runs and 9 hits.  The Eagles held a 3-2 lead after the first inning and battled back from an 8-4 deficit with four runs in the top of the 5th inning to tie the game at eight all.

Freshman Simeon Bell collected three hits and scored three runs in the game as Josh Cummins and Brandon Smith each picked up a pair of hits.  Smith drove in four runs including two with a single in the 5th inning.

In the first game of the day, Asbury would pick up only four hits and committed six errors against Indiana Wesleyan.  Bell had a hit in that game as well as scoring a run and driving in one.  Casey Messner also had a hit in the game and picked up a triple in the game against St. Xavier.

The Eagles are scheduled to host Campbellsville University on Tuesday for a doubleheader at 1 p.m.  Weather could force the cancellation of those games.  Any updates will be posted on this site.
