KIAC Announces Spring Preseason Coaches Polls

BEREA, Ky. (January 27th, 2012) The preseason coaches’ polls for all Spring KIAC sports have been released. Teams picked by the coaches to win their respective sport are as follows: Indiana University Southeast (Baseball), Indiana University Southeast (Softball), Brescia University (Men’s Tennis), Brescia University (Men’s Golf), Berea College (Men’s Track and Field), Berea College (Women’s Track and Field).
Baseball
The 2012 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic conference preseason baseball poll was released Friday, January 27th by KIAC officials. The defending conference tournament and regular season champion Indiana University Southeast was selected as the top team. The Grenadiers received five first-place votes and 25 total points. Last season, IU Southeast finished the regular season with a 23-2 conference record. They went on to capture the conference tournament and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.
The remaining spots in the poll show that the conference should be competitive with the other four schools receiving nearly the same amount of votes. Berea College sits in the second spot in the preseason poll 15 total points. Brescia University is third in the preseason poll with 14 points. Asbury University is fourth with 11 points, followed by Alice Lloyd College with 10 points.
Conference play will begin on February 29th. The season will conclude with the KIAC Tournament April 26-28.

Softball
The 2012 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic conference preseason softball poll was released Friday, January 27th by KIAC officials. The defending regular season champion and conference tournament runner-up Indiana University Southeast was selected as the top team. The Grenadiers received four first-place votes. Last season, IU Southeast finished the regular season with a 17-1 conference record. They were the runner-up in the conference tournament.
Asbury was the conference tournament champion last season and is second in the preseason poll with two first place votes. Berea is third in the poll, followed by Brescia in fourth, Midway in fifth, and Alice Lloyd in sixth.
Conference play will begin on March 3rd. The season will conclude with the KIAC Tournament in May.

Men’s Tennis
The 2012 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic conference preseason men’s tennis poll was released Friday, January 27th by KIAC officials. The defending conference tournament and regular season champion Brescia University was selected as the top team. The team also advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. The Bearcats received four first-place votes.
IU Southeast and Asbury tied for the second spot in the polls with 1 first place vote and 29 points each. IU Southeast was the regular season and tournament runner-up last season. IU East is fourth in the poll with 16 points, followed by Berea and St. Louis College of Pharmacy in fifth with 10 points each.
Conference play will begin on March 11th. The season will conclude with the KIAC Tournament May 4-5.

Men’s Golf
The 2012 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic conference preseason men’s golf poll was released Friday, January 27th by KIAC officials. Defending conference champion Brescia University was selected as the top team. The Bearcats won the 36-hole Championship last season. The Bearcats received six first-place votes and 36 total points in the poll.
IU East was selected in the second spot with 27 points. Asbury is third with 26 points. Cincinnati Christian is fourth (19 points), followed by Berea College (11 points), and Alice Lloyd College (7 points).
The KIAC Championship is scheduled for April 28-29.
