KIAC Baseball Awards Handed Out

BEREA, Ky. – Eight baseball players were named to either the first or second team KIAC All-Conference Team by leagues coaches this past week. 

Pitchers Greg Bowling, Jon Wes Adams and Gardner Adams were named to the first team along with catcher Jordan Barker and centerfielder Danny Olszowy.  Gardner Adams was also named KIAC Pitcher of the Year.  Gardner led the KIAC in wins (10), opponents batting average (.210), batters struck out per nine (12.71) and total strikeouts (88).  He was third in ERA (3.03) all in 62.1 innings pitched.  He led the team in all categories.

Bowling ranked fourth in the conference in ERA (3.38) and led the team with 64 innings pitched.  He’s struck out 52 and completed four of his team-high 12 starts.  Jon Wes Adams’ ERA stands at 2.81 and has struck out 48 in 43.2 innings.  His opponents batting average against is .210.  He hasn’t pitched enough innings to qualify for conference or national rankings.

Jordan Barker started the first 36 games of the season at catcher before a season ending hip injury.  Barker batted .273 with 17 RBIs, five doubles and one home run.  Danny Olszowy has started 49 of 50 games in centerfield for the Eagles batting .301 with 31 RBIs, 17 doubles, five triples, three home runs and 50 runs scored.  He led the conference in doubles and runs scored and was second in triples.  Olszowy also ranks 9th in the NAIA with 33 stole bases.

Bowling was also named to the second team at third base along with teammates Matt Ciolek (1b), Mark Deetsch (Utility) and Casey Messner (DH).  Bowling led the team in batting average and was fourth in the conference with a .371 average.  He also led the team with a .473 on-base percentage and stole 27 bases.  Ciolek led the team and conference with 47 RBIs.  He batted .335 and slugged a team-best eight home runs.  Deetsch batted .296 with 16 RBIs and five doubles splitting time between second and third base.  Messner batted .273 with 39 runs scored and stole 26 bases.

Jon Wes Adams and Danny Olszowy were named to the KIAC Gold Glove Team as a pitcher and outfielder respectively. 

Asbury heads to the NCCAA Mideast Region Tournament beginning on Tuesday May 10th in Bristol, Tenn.
