KIAC and NCCAA Regional Softball Awards Announced
BEREA, Ky. – Asbury’s softball team had five players named to the KIAC All-Conference team as well as four to the NCCAA Mideast Region team. Coach Larry McCullough was named KIAC Co-Coach of the Year after finishing second in the conference with a 14-4 mark. The Eagles would go on to win the KIAC Tournament.
Catcher Sarah Patrick was named to both the KIAC and NCCAA Mideast region team along with third baseman Miranda Drury and outfielder Mary Ann Warford. Jessica Johnson was named to the All-KIAC team as a DH and Stephanie Wade was named as an infielder at-large. Pitcher Kelsey Robinson was named to the NCCAA Mideast Region team as well.
Warford led the conference with a .418 batting average, she also scored 19 runs. Patrick was third in the conference with a .413 average. The sophomore drove in 18 and had a team-high nine doubles to go along with two home runs. Drury led the team with five home runs, 24 RBIs, and 25 runs scored to go along with a .395 average and six doubles.
Robinson led the conference with a 1.78 ERA. She had a 5-2 record and completed six of her eight starts. She also threw the first perfect game in school history against Alice Lloyd on April 19th. Johnson batted .408 in 49 at-bats hitting two home runs and driving in 21. Wade batted .370 with 18 RBIs.
The Eagles won their second KIAC Championship and will appear in the NAIA National Championship for the second time in three years. The 2011 national championship will be in Gulf Shores, Ala. beginning on May 19th.
