Eight Eagles Make NCCAA All-Region Team
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Three Asbury baseball players were named to the 2011 NCCAA Mid-East Region team as voted on by league coaches. Pitcher Gardner Adams, outfielder Danny Olszowy and utility Greg Bowling were all named to the first team. Five other players were named Honorable Mention.
Adams compiled a 10-4 record on the mound with one save for the Eagles. He struck out 92 in 65.2 innings of work. Opponents batted only .224 against him and finished with a 3.70 ERA. Bowling led the team in batting with a .381 average and a .486 on-base percentage. He scored 36 runs and drove in 19. Bowling was second on the team with four triples and third with seven doubles. He also stole 28 bases. Olszowy led the team in runs scored (52), doubles (18), triples (7), stolen bases (34), and was second in RBIs (35) and home runs (3).
Jon Wes Adams was named honorable mention at pitcher after posting a 7-1 record and a 2.84 ERA. Jordan Barker also received the honor at catcher with a .273 average before a season-ending hip injury. Bowling was also named honorable mention at pitcher after a 5-4 record and a 3.38 ERA. First baseman Matt Ciolek was named to the team as well, hitting .339 with a team-high eight home runs and 49 RBIs. Mark Deetsch made the team at second after hitting .291 with five doubles and Casey Messner made the squad at designated hitter after a .274 average and 26 stolen bases.
Asbury was knocked out of the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament and did not get an at-large bid to the NCCAA World Series, ending their season with a school record 33-18-2 mark.
