Adams Named KIAC Pitcher of the Year

Gardner AdamsBEREA, Ky. – Asbury Senior pitcher Gardner Adams (Lexington, Ky.) was named KIAC Pitcher of the Year on Thursday by league coaches. Adams led the conference in wins (10), opponents batting average (.212), batters struck out per 9 (12.71), total strikeouts (88) and was third in ERA (3.03) all in 62.1 innings pitched.

Adams became the school’s all-time strikeout leader against Brescia on April 29th when he struck out 11, moving past John Slone’s mark of 192. He currently has 207 strikeouts in 160 innings. He set a personal-high of 13 strikeouts against Berea back on April 16th.

His 88 strikeouts this year leave him just 10 behind Slone’s single season school-record of 98 set in 1999. Adams ranks 4th in the NAIA in batters struck out per nine, 11th in wins and 19th in total batters struck out.

Adams was named KIAC Pitcher of the Week four times this year, including the final two weeks of the season. Adams becomes the second Asbury pitcher to be named conference pitcher of the year, joining teammate Greg Bowling who won the honor in 2009.
