Thomsen, Adams Sweep Weekly Baseball Awards
Asbury baseball swept this week’s Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference awards as Evan Thomsen and Gardner Adams were named Player and Pitcher of the Week. Asbury set a new school record for wins in a season after a sweep of Brescia on Friday, improving to 27-11-2 overall and 16-5 in the KIAC.
Asbury University senior outfielder Evan Thomsen was named the KIAC baseball player of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, April 25th. Thomsen led Asbury to a 4-0 record last week and finished the week with a batting average of .667 (8-for-12). He ended the week with five runs scored, two doubles, one triple, one homerun, and eight runs batted in. Thomsen is currently batting .333 (31-for-93).
Asbury University senior Gardner Adams was named the KIAC baseball pitcher of the week by KIAC officials on Monday, April 25th. This is the third time this year he’s received this honor. Adams earned the win as the Eagles defeated Brescia University 8-3 on April 22nd. He pitched 5 innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits while striking out seven Brescia hitters. The senior hurler ranks eighth in NAIA with nine wins and is sixth in batters struck out per 9 innings (12.08). He has a record of 9-2 with an earned run average of 3.21.
Asbury currently resides in second place with a conference record of 16-5. They will return to action on April 28th when they travel to Berea.
