Olszowy Cranks Two Homers in Split

Game One | Game Two

Wilmore, Ky. – Danny Olszowy hit two home runs and drove in three runs in game two as Asbury (19-23) split a pair against Campbellsville (28-13) Tuesday afternoon, 0-8 and 6-4.  Drew Freeman also belted his first career homer in the second game.

Asbury took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first of game two as Olszowy cranked his third homer of the season.  The Tigers answered with three in second and one in the third.  The Eagles would tie it up in the bottom of the third.  Olszowy hit a sac fly to score Gardner Adams who led off the inning by being hit by a pitch.  Then Freeman belted his first home run on a 1-1 pitch, Jon Wes Adams would score.

Jon Wes Adams was in the middle of the Eagles taking the lead in the fifth as he reached on a one-out walk.  Casey Messner dropped a double just inside the left field line for a double that scored Adams.  Messner was caught trying to steal third, and Olszowy would belt his fourth homer of the season three pitches later.

Cody Christopher (2-3) pitched four innings in relief of Brad Williams for the win.  Campbellsville’s Jake Kutsukos took the loss.  Christopher allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out six.  Williams walked two and gave up six hits over three innings.

The Eagles simply couldn’t get to game one starter Rusty Devitt.  Asbury collected only two hits in the game as Devitt struck out 10 and didn’t walk a batter.  Mark Deetsch made the start for the Eagles, his first since March 25th.  Deetsch didn’t allow an earned run as the defense committed two turnovers in the second that led to all three runs charged to him.  Deetsch didn’t walk a batter and struck out six and allowed five hits.  The bullpen gave up five runs in two innings of work.

Asbury hosts Brescia University on Friday and Saturday as they wrap up KIAC action.  The Eagles need to win three of the four games to secure the top spot in the KIAC Tournament.  Indiana Southeast is likely to lock up the best record in the conference with a series against Cincinnati Christian which will send them to the KIAC Playoff Series and skip the tournament.

Friday’s first pitch against Brescia is set for 1:00 pm and Saturday at 12:00 pm.  Asbury will honor their lone senior Blake Engelhart in between games on Saturday.
