Baseball Set for Post-Season Play
Wilmore, Ky. – The Asbury baseball team will take on the host Berea College of the 2010 KIAC Playoff Series Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The two teams finished the KIAC regular season with identical 11-9 marks in the conference and split a four game series at Asbury three weeks ago.
The KIAC post-season will consist of a two round process for the second straight year. The regular season champion Indiana Southeast will host the winner of the Playoff Series on May 7th and 8th in a best two-out-of-three Championship Series. The winner of that series will move on to the NAIA Opening Round.
Asbury will play the Mountaineers for the third straight year in the KIAC double-elimination tournament but the first time in the winner’s bracket. The Eagles are 10-4 overall against Berea since the baseball program was re-instituted for the 2008 season.
The Eagles had five players make the 2010 KIAC All-Conference team as selected by the six member coaches, freshmen Casey Messner and Drew Freeman, sophomore Danny Olszowy, and juniors Matt Ciolek and Gardner Adams. Adams was the only Eagles selected as a pitcher.
Freeman led the team and was second in the KIAC in batting average at .449, Jerrod Moore of Berea led the conference at .472. Olszowy, Ciolek, and Messner finished 2-4 on the team in batting average and all finished in the top 16 of the conference. Adams finished 3-2 with a team best 4.61 ERA, was second with 41 innings pitched and led the team with 58 strikeouts.
