Thigpen K's 15, Eagles Roll
Wilmore, Ky. – Josh Thigpen set a school record with 15 strikeouts in game one as Asbury finished off a four game sweep of Cincinnati Christian 7-1, and 13-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Thigpen (Maple, N.C.) gave up six hits in his complete game victory, he now stands at 2-2 this season. The only run CCU scored came in the second as Nick Westfall hit a one-out homer. Asbury (11-11, 4-0 KIAC) only scored in two innings, getting four in the first and three in the sixth.
The Eagles hit a season-high three home runs in the game with Matt Ciolek, Brad Williams, and Casey Messner all going deep. Messner and Ciolek had two hits in the game as did Greg Bowling. Asbury also stole four bases in the game.
Gardner Adams picked up his second win of the season in game two, going four innings allowing five hits, one run and striking out six. Casey Messner was a pest again at the top of the line-up with two triples and two runs scored. Jake Carlos hit a pinch hit three-run home run in the fourth and Greg Bowling and Blake Englehardt each picked up three hits.
The Eagles will travel to St. Catherine on Tuesday to play a double-header starting at 2:00 pm. They return home Thursday to host Cincinnati-Clermont at 1:00 pm.
