Patriots Too Much for Eagles

Game One | Game Two

Williamsburg, Ky. – Asbury dropped a pair to the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday March 6th.  The Eagles dropped the first game 8-2 before losing in extra innings in game two 3-2.

Asbury (4-7) fell behind in the fifth as Cumberlands scored four, the Patriots would add another four spot in the sixth.  The Eagles scored their only two runs in the top of the sixth as Anthony Palmer, Casey Messner, and Danny Olszowy came up with hits in the inning.  Asbury collected only eight hits, and Messner’s double was the only extra base hit off of Cumberlands’ Pitcher Shane Stancil.  Stancil picked up his second win of the season as Greg Bowling took his first loss.

Cody Christopher pitched eight masterful innings in the second game, but still came away with a no-decision.  Christopher allowed only six hits and two runs while striking out four, but Cumberlands scored off reliever Isaiah Bell in the ninth to pull out the 3-2 victory.  Matt Ciolek belted his first homer of the season in the second to tie the game at 1.  Ciolek had two hits on the day as did Josh Thigpen.  Thigpen brought home Ciolek in the fourth on a sacrifice fly that gave the Eagles a brief 2-1 lead.  Cumberlands would tie it in the bottom of the inning.

Asbury will host Pikeville College for two games on Tuesday March 9th starting at 1:00 pm.
