Asbury Splits With Alice Lloyd
Wilmore, KY - The Asbury College baseball team split a double-header with Alice Lloyd College on Saturday taking game one 8-7 and dropping game two 6-3.
Asbury (13-15, 2-1 KIAC) won game one in exciting fashion as Luke Temple laid down a suicide squeeze with the bases loaded and the game tied in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Eagles had loaded the bases with no outs with Temple came to the plate and delivered on the first pitch he saw.
Asbury had jumped out to an early 4-0 in the first inning as Blake Englehardt (Largo, FL) belted a two-run homer to left field, his second of the season. Alice Lloyd would take the lead with a five run fourth. Asbury would re-take the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Alice Lloyd would again take the lead in the fifth and seventh before Asbury would answer each time.
Jon Wes Adams (2-1) got the win after pitching 3.2 innings in relief. Adams gave up two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three. Greg Bowling (Ashland, KY), Luke Temple (Wilmore, KY), and Slade Halvaksz (Lexington, KY) all had two hit games with Halvaksz and Temple picking up an RBI each.
Asbury fell behind early in game two as Alice Lloyd scored two runs in the second and third innings. Asbury would score two in the bottom of the third but Alice Lloyd would answer back with two in the fourth.
Greg Bowling (1-2) would be the tough luck loser as he gave six runs but only two earned in the complete game outing. Bowling gave up five hits, three walks and struck out four. Mark Deetsch (Louisville, KY) went 2-for-3 in game with a double. Englehardt and Jon Wes Adams also had doubles.
Asbury is set to make up Friday's rainout with Alice Lloyd on Monday at 2pm. The Eagles will take on Georgetown College at Applebee's Park on Tuesday at 7pm.
