Monroe Leads Eagles Past Centre
Danville, KY---Zach Monroe provided the pop and Asbury won a high-scoring affair with Centre 23-11 on Tuesday night. Monroe hit two home runs to bring his season total to 11, his first coming in a seven-run second inning that saw the Eagles take control of the game.
Asbury (12-14) trailed 1-0 before Monroe led off the second with a bomb to right field, after that the flood gates were opened. The biggest hits of the inning were a two-run single by Jon Wes Adams, a three-run double by Danny Olszowy, and an RBI single by Blake Englehardt. All told the Eagles scored seven-runs on seven hits and still left the bases loaded in the second. Monroe would blast his second homer in the third inning, a two-run shot to right, all part of the four-run third on only one hit.
In an effort to get the weekend pitching staff some innings after last weekend's rainouts Asbury threw six pitchers on the day with Cody Christopher picking up his third win of the season after replacing Greg Bowling in the third inning. William Blackburn and Travis McConathy both gave up only one walk in one inning each in relief.
At the plate besides Monroe, Jon Wes Adams had a big game with three hits in four at-bats with 5 RBI and two runs scored. Danny Olszowy had two hits and three RBI. Matt Ciolek, Luke Temple, and Mark Deetsch all had two hits as well.
Asbury returns to KIAC action this weekend, hosting Alice Lloyd Friday and Saturday for two double-headers. Friday's first pitch is set for 2pm with Saturday's action getting underway at 12pm.
