Monroe Leads the Way as Eagles Sweep Saints
Wilmore, KY---The Asbury College baseball team evened their record at 2-2 with a two game sweep of Siena Heights (MI) on Friday afternoon.
Zach Monroe would end a 2-2 tie in game one with a walk-off homer to right field to lead off the bottom of the 9th inning.
Asbury jumped out quickly in game one when senior Slade Halvaksz led off the bottom of the first with a single. Senior Luke Temple would follow with a triple off the fence in left, scoring Halvaksz. Junior Zach Monroe would follow with a sacrifice fly to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. The Saints would tie it up in the third with a hit batter, bunt single, walk, sac fly, and an RBI ground out.
Both Mark Deetsch and Gardner Adams would pitch well in game one, with Adams picking up the win in four innings of one hit baseball in relief. Gardner's twin brother Jon Wes would pitch just as well if not better in game two, going the distance and striking out seven. He would only allow four hits in seven innings and one walk.
Monroe would pick up where he left off game one with a solo homer in the first inning of game two. Deetsch would swing the bat in game two as well as he pitched in game one, blasting a two run shot over the left field fence in the third inning. The Eagles would add the final run on Danny Olszowy's RBI single in the fourth.
These same two teams will hook up again tomorrow Saturday February 14th in another double header slated to begin at 10am.
