Christopher Loses No-No in 7th, Asbury Splits Two
Wilmore, KY---Cody Christopher threw a one-hitter and Asbury College shutout Siena Heights in game one of a double header 4-0 on Saturday February 14th.
Christopher (1-1) stuck out three, walked one, hit one and gave up a seventh inning single to Justin Root for the Saints' only hit of the game. Christopher only had one man reach third base in the game, Josh Miranda in the 1st inning after he reached on a throwing error by Christopher.
The Eagles would give Christopher plenty to work with, getting the scoring started in the 3rd inning. Evan Thomsen singled and was sacrificed to second by Gardner Adams. Mark Deetsch followed with an infield single, and Slade Halvaksz followed a single of his own. After a pop out, Zach Monroe walked, scoring Thomsen, and then Blake Engelhardt doubled to left center, clearing the bases. Engelhardt was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple. Asbury would add two more in the 4th.
Game two would be much of the same but with the teams switching sides with the Saints coming away victorious 10-2. Siena Heights starter Chris Boertje wouldn't allow a hit until the 6th, exiting after 5 and 2/3 innings of two hit two run baseball. Boertje would strike out six. The Eagle offense just never came around in the second game, with only four hits and two runs. Asbury would get RBIs from Zach Monroe and Greg Bowling.
Asbury (3-3) will hit the road on Tuesday February 17th for a double-header at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky starting at 12:00 pm. The Eagles return home next weekend, Friday February 20th at 1:00 pm for one nine inning game and Saturday February 21st for a double-header starting at 12:00pm against Bethel (IN)
