Baseball drops weekend series to the Cumberlands
Williamsburg, KY - Asbury dropped a pair of games against NAIA-ranked University of the Cumberlands on Saturday. The Eagles fell behind quickly in the first game, giving up four runs in the second inning. Cumberlands would tack on another run in the fourth for a 5-0 lead, but Asbury would fight back with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth before UC's Brandon Williams would earn the save by striking out two of the three Asbury batters in the seventh.
The night cap would see Asbury get the early 1-0 lead on a single by Mark Deetsch in the first inning but Cumberlands would score the next six to take a 6-1 lead before a Greg Bowling single in the sixth would account for the final 6-2 margin.
The losses drop Asbury to 1-5 on the season. The team is scheduled at Georgetown on Friday, then a Saturday game at Campbellsville. They will next be at home on Friday, March 14th and Saturday, March 15th for a 3-game set with Oakland City (Ind.) University.
