Federal Grants
Pell Grants
A Federal Pell Grant is an award to help undergraduates pay for their education after high school. For many students, Federal Pell Grants provide a "foundation" of financial aid, to which aid from other federal and non-federal sources may be added. Unlike loans, grants don't have to be paid back.
Eligibility is determined by completion of the FAFSA. For the 2008-2009 academic year, the Pell Grant ranges from $890 - $4731.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The FSEOG is for full-time undergraduates with exceptional financial need who are also Pell Grant recipients.
Although the Department of Education allows a student to receive up to $4000 a year, Asbury College students, due to funding limitations, receive between $500 and $1000 per year.
Academic Competiveness Grant (ACG)
The ACG is awarded to full-time first and second year undergraduate students who have completed a rigorous course of study during high school, who are Pell Grant eligible and are U.S. citizens. Students will self-identify as eligible for this grant when completing the FAFSA. Asbury College, upon receipt of final transcripts, determines if all qualifications are met.
The first year grant is $750. The second year grant is $1300. Second year students must also maintain a 3.0 minimum GPA coming in to the second year to be eligible for the grant.
National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART)
The SMART Grant is awarded to full-time third and fourth year undergraduates who are Pell Grant eligible, are U.S. citizens, and are majoring in physical, life or computer sciences, mathematics, technology or engineering, or in a foreign language determined critical to national security. The student must also have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in coursework required for the major.
A student may receive up to $4000 per year, provided he/she is enrolled in at least one major course per semester.
