Academic PreparationRebecca Oswald

Preparing to be a Business Education teacher was always my first academic goal. The completion of a Master of Business Education at the University of Kentucky followed. Upon joining the Education Department, my desire to increase my academic preparation to better prepare teacher candidates led to the completion of a Doctorate in Education in the area of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation.

Instructional Areas and Professional Interests

Instructing in the area of technology continuously challenges me to stay abreast of new developments, as well as to assess the implications in teacher preparation. My strong interest in providing teacher candidates with authentic technology preparation in education has resulted in an exciting collaborative partnership with the public schools. As practicum coordinator, my responsibilities include placing teacher candidates in multiple school settings. Further involvement with public schools, research, attendance at professional conferences, conference presentations, and fulfillment of official positions in two professional education organizations provides continuous opportunities for professional growth that inform my teaching for foundations of education and technology. My areas of research have centered on the use of the education portfolio in employment and on discovering the unique strengths and weaknesses of individual personal styles in relating to others in the educational realm.

Personal and Family Interests:

Being very interested in people and cultures, travel is of great importance to me. Travels through 48 states and six countries has broadened my global perspective and increased my desire to learn about even more countries and cultures. My interest in reading has provided a way for me to travel and to gain insight into people, as well. A deep appreciation of music and art has inspired me to learn to play a guitar and to be involved in multiple choirs. While the beauty of God’s world is all around, flowers brighten my world immensely when growing them and appreciating them in their natural environment.

Call to Teaching and Missions:

Because God called me to my first mission experience with the Navajo Indians at 18 years of age, involvement in missions has remained a part of my life. And my call to teaching has included using my educational training for service in the church as well. Currently, I serve as Board Chair of New Hope Ministries, International and encourage college students to participate in some type of mission experience to gain a broader view of God’s people and their unique cultures.
