Asbury College presents Hamlet
By Matt Tidman, a senior from Wilmore.
WILMORE, KY—The Asbury College theatre and cinema performance program is proud to present William Shakespeare’s Hamlet April 10-12 and 17-19.
The play is in the Doddridge-Holland Theatre at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are $8 and will be available in the College bookstore beginning April 7.
The Asbury College performance will star Clay Hassler ’08 as Hamlet, Mitch Colley ’08 as Claudius, Natalie Lawyer ’10 as Gertrude, and Alyssa Graves ’11 as Ophelia.
Hamlet is Shakespeare’s classic tale of revenge, treachery, madness, and moral corruption. The story is about the young prince Hamlet of Denmark. Before the play, Hamlet’s uncle, Claudius, kills the former king, Hamlet’s father. After seeing a ghost of his father, Hamlet tries to find out if his uncle did kill the former king.
Throughout the course of the play, Hamlet is involved in intrigues, a reenactment of his father’s death, murder and a duel that can’t be won. All the while Hamlet explores the ever-relevant issues of trust, loyalty and death.
Hassler sums up the play, “A ghost. Revenge. Madness. Love. Death. Bow.”
So don’t miss your chance to see one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays performed by an excellent Asbury College cast.
