Songs of the Season, Dec. 4

WILMORE, KY—The Asbury College Departments of Music and English will present the annual interdisciplinary Songs of the Season program on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Akers Auditorium on the college’s campus. The program is free and open to the public.

In this highly anticipated, collaborative effort, seasonal music of Advent and Christmas blends with both prose and poetry readings. Six members of the English faculty—Professors Devin Brown, Shawnee Fleenor, Chuck Gobin, Marcia Hurlow, Daniel Strait, and Paul Vincent—will share literature ranging from the 17th century to the present, including a wide selection of poetry.

The musical participants include the instrumental chamber groups of the Collegium Musicum: Brass Ensemble, String Ensemble, Flute Choir, and Guitar Ensemble. Among the works to be presented will be a performance of Vivaldi’s Concerto for Guitar and Strings, with three student guitarists sharing the limelight: Corey Cantrell, Andrew Kerhoulas and Tyler Zweifel.

Audience members will join in the festivities by singing several festive carols, accompanied by an array of instrumental combinations.

The program lasts approximately one hour.
