Asbury College presents The Messiah, Dec. 14

WILMORE, KY—Every four years Asbury College performs G.F. Handel’s Messiah. This year the combined choirs of the Chorale, Women’s Choir, Men’s Glee Club and orchestra, directed by Dr. Ronald Holz, perform this work Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m. in Hughes Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public, but a free-will offering will be collected for production expenses. Approximately 140 students, faculty and staff will participate in this musical event.

The music department has selected the student vocal soloists and string soli group for that day. In each solo vocal work, two singers have been selected. The vocal soloists are as follows:

Comfort Ye--Ev’ry Valley: Caleb Friedeman, Colin McGlothlin
He Shall Feed His Flock: Aletha Hutt, Laura Hogue
Come Unto Me: Kristin Gillis, Dara Miller
Angel Recit and Arioso Sequence: Kaylyn Moran, Cherise Bell
O Thou That Tellest: Hannah Dishman, Laura Hogue
Rejoice: Megan Parker
I Know That My Redeemer: Theresa Slovich, Megan Parker

Handel divides his orchestral strings into the full tutti, and a small soli. The following players will feature in the soli grouping:

Violins: Laura Kennedy, Faith Shaw, Jared Trudel, Tony Toadvine
Viola: Allison Crutcher, Charles Hunter
Cello: Elizabeth Sato
Bass: Lee Clements

Faculty performers on Messiah will include the following artists:

Harpsichord: Dr. Donald Zent
Organ: Dr. Mark Schell
Continuo Cello: Professor Clyde Beavers
Bass Soloist on Refiner’s Fire: Professor Eric Brown
