Asbury students learn Chinese

WILMORE, KY—Herald-Leader reporter Greg Kocher wrote about the Chinese courses now offered in the Asbury College department of World Languages, and in Jessamine County Schools. Zheng Yanhong and Liu Yuan are spending the year in the United States teaching Mandarin to elementary, middle and high school students in the Jessamine County school district as well as at the College.

Many of the Asbury students enrolled in the Chinese courses are headed to Beijing this summer to help broadcast the Olympics. Megan Scott, a junior from Traverse City, Mich., is one of those students. “She really immersed us in the culture. We spoke the language every day. I feel very prepared to enter another culture, understanding how the language functions.”
