Designed for early and mid-career working professionals in for-profit and non-profit fields, who are dispersed geographically but seek a rigorous, faith-based educational experience in management using the latest technology, Asbury University’s MBA is an online, cohort-based, 36 credit hour program that can be completed in 20 or 15 months.
Each academic year, one cohort of students will begin the 20 month version of the program in August. Another cohort will begin the 15 month version the following January. Both cohorts will complete the program the next May, meaning that the two initial cohorts will graduate in early May of 2015. Students will come to Asbury’s Wilmore campus—just south of Lexington, Kentucky—during the 4-5 days before graduation for presentations, meetings, field trips, and other capstone course activities.
Asbury’s program includes the traditional core of courses associated with most MBA degrees, and incorporates the themes of social entrepreneurship and ethical leadership. Asbury business faculty have designed these courses and the broader program to combine long-standing elements of the management field with recent developments, such as the shift toward global and international business mechanisms and the use of new tools and techniques to promote successful entrepreneurship.
By utilizing up-to-date online instructional approaches, Asbury business faculty members will be able to work with well-selected MBA students from across the US and indeed around the world. Courses will be intensive, project based, and taught over six or seven week sessions. Students will take either one course or two courses at the same time as they work their way through the program. Students will complete a range of both individual and group assignments, will receive extensive feedback from faculty, will be involved periodically in synchronous sessions with all members of the cohort, and will use multiple technologies to interact with one another. The capstone project presented to the cohort and faculty on campus just before graduation will be a culminating event for students.
The Asbury MBA course sequence for both the 20 month and 15 month tracks are found in the table below, and more detailed course descriptions follow.
