Art In Medieval To Modern France (ART394 - 3 hrs credit) PDF (download)

Provides a representative survey of the art and Architecture of France through access to world-renowned French art collections and architectural sites. Lectures and on-site travel to cathedrals, museums and Galleries in Paris and surrounding regions familiarize students with artistic expression from its earliest manifestations through the contemporary period. Attention is given to the ways in which artistic initiatives have emerged from within particular cultural, historical, and religious moments, including the ways in which these moments have engaged in the reception and transformation of thematic, iconographic, and formal elements associated with Christian faith.

Study and preparation prior to departure itenerary of excursions and exercises in France

Course Registration

A student who has already taken ART394 may participate, but must register as 492/392 Directed Study in Art History, with a separate syllabus of assignments per instructor. Participants who will not be Asbury students at the time of travel (including those graduating in May, as well as non-Asbury students) must fill out paperwork with registrar to receive course credit.
