Dr. Ken Pickerill - "Service As Our Mission"

February 11, 2013

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” -- Romans 12:11, TNIV

What does it mean from a personal perspective to be living in mission?  Traditionally one might think of serving those in need either domestically or abroad.

Let us apply the following words of Paul to the Romans as an example of how we can daily live in mission. “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:11, TNIV)  As Christians we are called to live our lives as servants in mission to everyone around us our family members, neighbors, our church community, and strangers in need.

Of course there are days in which we will find this service more challenging than other days, but we are called to be as consistent as possible, called into the daily mission of serving the Lord with an unflagging persistence.  Marva J. Dawn, in her book, Truly the Community, refers to this matter in life as a consistency or diligence in daily living.

May we know the presence of the Holy Spirit who is always ready to provide the source for an inextinguishable zeal in serving others on our daily mission.
