Dr. Jon Kulaga - "Who Is My Neighbor?"
“You shall love your neighbor as yourself…and who is my neighbor?” – Luke 10:27, 29
When Jesus was challenged to declare what the greatest commandment was, He said it was the command to love God with all our of heart, soul, mind and strength. But He didn’t stop there – He went on to say that “the second is like it, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” In the mind of Jesus, those who are abounding in a full love of God will, out of that abundant overflow, love their neighbor. It is inevitable.
As we think about our role in stewarding His creation on earth, it is right and proper to do so within the context of the question – “Who is my neighbor?” And by extension, “Am I collaborating with God in a life(style) that promotes healing and health for those who Jesus said were my neighbors?” As His stewards and as good neighbors, does what we buy, how much we consume, where it all ends up, and how it eventually impacts the health of those around me, matter?
If God reveals his divine-dominion authority over creation by caring for it, and declaring it “good”, shouldn’t our human dominion-authority over His creation reflect the same perspective.
