Prof. Michele Wells – “God’s Faithfulness Builds Faith”

November 08, 2013

“But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” -- Jude 20-21

When we face challenging times it is difficult to remain steadfast in our time of prayer and faithful study of the Word of God.  These are the times when we must press into God with a most tenacious spirit.  As wonderful as it is to hear a great sermon, read a great devotion, or have someone agree with us in prayer, Jude says that we are kept in God’s love by building ourselves up.  When times are difficult reflect on what God has already done and how He has shown Himself faithful.  His faithfulness builds faith.

“I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.” -- Ephesians 3:16-17

God is not looking for long eloquent prayer; He already knows the cry of my heart.  Prayer is a conversation with Him that affirms and encourages my faith.  How much more can we be built up than by being heard and understood by our God who does not condemn but loves beyond a measure that we can comprehend. As we walk in His love and mercy even in difficulty we have expectation of a great promise because of the cross.  Remember Christ’s faithfulness and be built up in your most holy faith.
