Mrs. Lisa Harper – “The Greatest Gifts”
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” – Romans 12:9-13
“Wow. How did you know this is exactly what I wanted? I’ve never had a potholder that size before.”
“Oh, these earrings are perfect. What a beautiful color.”
While I have received more expensive gifts, even some that have taken my breath away, these gifts have been by far my favorite. Why? Because these gifts were given out of joy and great anticipation. Many times, I couldn’t get the package opened before one of the boys would tell me what it was – they were just so excited!
Is God this excited when I think first of others? Do His eyes twinkle with joy and anticipation when I honor someone else and selflessly give of my time, money and/or talents? I had never really thought about this side of our Creator until I became a parent. Oh, how He must treasure those gifts that are given freely, intentionally, and exuberantly. How it must bring Him great joy when we accept them willingly, graciously, and even excitedly.
On this most recognized day of gift-giving, I am reminded that a gift given with one’s whole heart is the most precious gift of all. Simplistic? Yes. True? Absolutely.
