Dr. Mark Schell – “Holy Living Begins with Our Thoughts”

December 13, 2013

Scripture Reference: Philippians 4:4-9

“Whatever is true, …noble, …right, …pure, …lovely, …admirable, …excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” – Philippians 4:8

What a wonderful opportunity we have to experience our lives as God intended them to be! Paul encourages us to “Rejoice in the Lord always,” living lives continually embodied by joy. How is this possible? The Lord wants us to give Him all our stress, all our problems, all our weaknesses, all our concerns, and leave them with Him through prayer. We are experts at giving all these things to God, and then immediately taking them back!

The reward of leaving these things with God is that He will give us peace and guard our hearts and minds.  It really does matter what you put in your mind! So many of us have allowed evil thoughts and images to pollute our minds, the result being the opposite God intended (chaos, stress, fear, regret, guilt).

It is time we turn our minds back over to God, so that He can heal the damage and replace it with joy and peace through His great mercy. He will then return to guard our minds. He will replant within us the desire to seek true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy thoughts again.  Then the peace of God will return!
